Places To Travel With Your Dog In The U.S.

If you’re a pet parent who loves to travel, you have three choices when planning a fun getaway: find a dog-sitter, enroll your dog in a board & train program, or take your pooch with you! None of these choices ranking better than the other. Because depending on the trip, your pup might add stress to the situation. Or they’ll be miserably stuck in a hotel room most of the time. For cases like that, a board & train program would leave your dog in the safe hands of fellow dog-lovers where your pooch would be able to happily play with other furry friends and freshen up their obedience skills.

Although in other cases, you may decide to plan a trip that involves your canine companion in all the fun. So for the times you just can’t leave Fido behind, consider some of these dog-friendly destinations. They’ll surely give your pooch something to wag their tail about.

Asheville, North Carolina

If you’re someone who absolutely loves the outdoors and has a canine to match – Asheville, NC, could make a perfect destination. With only a couple thousand miles of trails to hike, you should have no problem getting in Fido’s daily walks.

If you explore the town, you’ll quickly discover that many of their sidewalk cafes and breweries welcome canine companions. That’s without even mentioning they’ve previously coined the title of “Dog City, USA,” and it’s not surprising to see why. When planning your trip, you’ll not only have pet-friendly hotels to choose from but a variety of cabins, bed & breakfasts, and even high-end resorts as well. When in Asheville, your four-legged friend can be sure to find an abundance of freshly filled water bowls, “dogs welcome” signs, and PLENTY of ear scratches and belly rubs from locals.

Colorado Springs, Colorado

Colorado Springs, CO, offers fresh air and breathtaking views of the Rocky Mountains that both you and your pooch are sure to enjoy. Not only can you and Fido explore the beauty of the mountains through hiking, but you can also take Fido on a dog-friendly Colorado Jeep Tour located in the Royal Gorge of Canyon City.

After your adventure, you’ll probably be looking for a bite to eat at a dog-friendly restaurant. Well, look no further, because Pub Dog Colorado is not only the first but the only restaurant in Colorado that allows you to dine indoors with your pooch. To top it all off, they also provide a 3,000 square foot off-leash outdoor play park. There, your furry friend can safely socialize with other pups.

Gatlinburg, Tennessee

A cherished spot for many families, Gatlinburg, TN, offers an exquisite sight of the Smokey Mountains. If you’re looking for a vacation on a budget, Gatlinburg offers pretty affordable prices for cabin rentals (many being dog-friendly). They provide gorgeous views and don’t necessarily make you feel like you’re roughing it in a cabin. You and your canine can go exploring dog-friendly trails and even take the Gatlinburg Sky Lift to the top of a mountain to explore hundreds of different trails.

If you and your pooch are shopaholics or simply want to window shop, there are plenty of pet-friendly stores in Gatlinburg. Grab some sweet treats for both you and your pup at Mad Dog’s Creamery & Donuts or pick out a new outfit for your furry best friend at Paws N Claws. If you’re not looking for anything in particular, consider taking a stroll through the Village Shops.

Austin, Texas

Another budget-friendly destination would be Austin, TX. They often promote low-priced or even free concerts, festivals, and entertainment. Austin is also a big believer in rolling out the red carpet for your furry friend. They’ll treat them like a real-life celebrity. So the number of breweries, parks, trails, restaurants, events, and stores that encourage four-legged patronage customers – shouldn’t be a shock. Just one example of this is the Doghouse Drinkery, which is not only a bar but a giant off-leash dog park that even offers a separate small dog area.

If you’re looking to rest and rest with your pooch on this trip, then you’ll need to check out Austin Dogayou get to do yoga with your dog!

Lake George, New York

A significant reason Lake George, NY, made our list was due to their fantastic one-of-a-kind Canine Camp Getaway held on Roaring Brook Ranch. Created specifically for dog-lovers, you’ll find everything that fits under a dog-friendly vacation. Canine Camp Getaway offers agility courses, frisbee games, hiking, and swimming for humans and canines alike. And that’s not all; they also promote lure coursing, scent detection, “barks & crafts,” canine CPR classes, dog nutrition, and an abundance of other tail-wagging worthy activities.

Also, don’t let this deter you by thinking this isn’t a “human-friendly” experience as well. You won’t be giving up any of your usual vacation amenities. You’ll still have access to AC, wi-fi, delicious food, private baths, golfing, boating, and nightlife entertainment in their bar lounge.

Bozeman, Montana

Bozeman, MT, will be a dream for any owner and pup pair that adores the outdoors. Known for being a dog town, you’ll run into dogs of every size, shape, and breed. During your stay with Fido, be sure to check out Bozeman’s designated off-leash dog park: Snowfill Recreation Area. There you’ll discover dog-proof fencing, plenty of water pumps, and two miles of trails that roam the hillside. Another hotspot for dog owners is Cooper Park, known simply to locals as “the dog park,” where apparently it’s impossible for your canine not to love it there.
