Can My Dog Eat Pasta?

You may be sitting at the kitchen table enjoying a delicious bowl of pasta only to have your pup staring you down, giving you literal puppy dog eyes. It’s so hard to say no when they look so cute, begging you for a bite of your food.

But is pasta safe for dogs to eat? Yes and No.

Is Pasta Safe For Dogs?

Regular pasta is made of simple ingredients that are all perfectly safe for your dog to eat. Egg, flour, and water are all perfectly safe foods for your dog to try.

Even brightly colored pasta is made with natural ingredients like vegetable juice that is also dog-safe, as well as noodles with Italian seasonings like oregano and basil.

However, do not give your dog pasta with any sauce on it. Many sauces contain ingredients like garlic and onions that are toxic for dogs.

Also, when you give your dog pasta, make sure it’s fully cooked. While many humans like our noodles al dente, this can make it harder for your pooch to digest. The softer the noodles, the better for Fido’s tummy.

Lastly, a little bit of pasta every once in a while can be a yummy treat for your dog but don’t let it become a regular thing. While pasta is safe for your dog, it doesn’t offer any of the nutrients they need to stay strong and healthy. Also, too much pasta can cause obesity and other health issues. It wouldn’t be as special if they had it all the time anyway!

So, if your dog is begging for a bite of your noodles, it’s okay to indulge them in a taste. Bon Appetite!
